I haven’t posted here for a while as I haven’t been doing much writing. It’s probably time to get going again. I wrote this this morning in response to hearing of someone who decided to close their business and take a job in the corporate world and I thought it might be a good place to start!

In terms of Buddhist or Zen teaching, there is no good or bad there are just events that we attach meaning to. If you think of the weather, it just is, it is we who decide on whether rain is good or bad and that depends upon where you are coming from and the kind of weather that you desire. If you are in Ireland then more rain is typically bad but if you are in Ethiopia in a drought it is pretty much a godsend!

As for the economy, it too is neither good nor bad, the people who see it just ‘as is’ will adapt and like thousands before will build great businesses if they focus on meeting people’s needs and serving them to their best ability. Thousands of great businesses were built in far worse economic conditions than these. Those that focus on it being bad will look for evidence of this belief and will behave with fear and as victims – they won’t build anything and probably won’t even find a job!

So don’t buy into the doom and gloom, don’t listen to the news or read the papers, instead read, listen and watch for stuff that promotes ideas, innovation and what is possible!

As for the guy who decided to close his business, I think it is great that he has made those decisions and taken some actions, that can only be a positive move for him at this time!
